The Texas Juvenile Justice Department provided the following updates Monday related to COVID-19:
• 1 youth at the McLennan County State Juvenile Correctional Facility, in Mart, tested positive for COVID-19 this afternoon. The youth has been in medical quarantine since September 16, when he first showed symptoms.
• 1 Youth Development Coach at the Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex, in Brownwood, tested positive for COVID-19 this afternoon.
Since the start of the pandemic, 177 staff members at the agency’s secure facilities have tested positive for COVID-19:
Evins Regional Juvenile Center: 55
Gainesville State School: 11
Giddings State School: 43
McLennan County State Juvenile Correctional Facility: 25
Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex: 43
Since the start of the pandemic, 202 youth at the agency’s secure facilities have tested positive for COVID-19:
Evins Regional Juvenile Center: 31
Gainesville State School: 13
Giddings State School: 89
McLennan County State Juvenile Correctional Facility: 43
Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Complex: 26
