Michael Smith, age 72, of Coleman, died Saturday, September 5, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
A come and go gathering and celebration of his life will be held Saturday, September 12, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Lake Coleman Volunteer Fire Department and Community Center, 140 Scenic Drive, Coleman, Texas 76834.
He was born Michael Augustus Smith on February 21, 1948 in Coleman to Grover “Jack” Lewis Smith and Edna Elizabeth Keeney Smith. He grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School. Michael then attended Angelo State University. In 1968, he joined the United States Air Force that turned into a 20-year career. Michael retired in 1988 as Master Sergeant. He married Shirley Lilly on June 21, 1969 in Hamby. Michael loved all sports and was an extremely competitive participant. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, and darts. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. Most of all, Michael enjoyed being with his family. He loved each of them deeply and cherished all the good times he had with them.
Michael is preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents, Jack and Elizabeth Smith; one sister, Shirley Chapman; one brother, Steve Mitchell; and grandson, Hunter Kubala.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Smith of Lake Coleman; son, Michael Shane Smith of Lake Coleman; his daughters, Sabra Teague and husband Randy of Lake Coleman, and Marcie Thibodeaux and husband Ken of Colorado; his grandchildren, Cameron Kubala and wife Abby of San Angelo, Taylor Kubala of Lake Coleman, Katrina Collins and husband James of Monahans, Lilly Thibodeaux of Colorado, Payton Thibodeaux of Colorado; his great-grandchildren, Kody Collins of Monahans, Conner Collins of Monahans, C.J. Collins of Monahans, Bhodie Kubala of Coleman; his siblings, Boyd Mitchell and wife Kay of Utah, Rondoe Smith and wife Gloria of Stephenville, Beth Moore and husband Randall of Minnesota; and numerous nephews and nieces.
