BRADY – The Early Lady Horns chalked up their first two volleyball victories of the season Tuesday night, sweeping Coleman in a best-of-three match while knocking off host Brady in four sets of a regulation length contest in dual match competition.
“We played good again for our second and third games of the year,” said Early head coach Natalie Whitewood. “We still have to get better at being consistent and we need a tad bit more confidence. Overall, it was a good night.”
In the 25-19, 25-19 win over Coleman, Taylor Summers led the Lady Horns with five kills followed by Carrigan Norris with four and Savannah Holt with one.
Norris and Grace LaRue recorded eight assists apiece followed by Summers with seven, Alexa Portillo with four and Madie Waldorf and Reagan Kirby with one each.
Summers served a team-high six aces while Norris contributed two.
Defensively, Waldorf, LaRue and Bethany Tomlinson each notched one kill, while Holt and Gwen Phillips tallied one block apiece.
In the Lady Horns’ 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 25-15 triumph over Brady, Holt and Norris logged four kills apiece, Portillo, Summers and Grecia Yebra notched two each and Phillips recorded one.
LaRue collected 28 assists trailed by 11 from Norris, seven each from Waldorf and Summers, six from Portillo, Yebra with three, Tomlinson with a pair and Kirby with one.
Norris delivered six aces, Portillo served three and LaRue, Phillips and Tori Wood-Rush added one apiece.
On the defensive end, LaRue registered three digs, Norris added two and Phillips and Yebra were credited with one each.
Phillips, Portillo and Yebra logged one block apiece.
Early (2-1) will host Bronte at 5:30 p.m. Friday, then welcome Lampasas at noon Saturday.
