Brownwood News – Brown County Commissioner’s Court met Monday morning, July 13. Commissioner Joel Kelton presided in the absence of County Judge Lilly. Commissioner Traweek was absent leaving Commissioners Kelton, Worley and Shaw to conduct county business.
Commissioners approved Jennifer Barbarie and Lindy Mason to the Brown County Child Welfare Board. Judy Brownlee said this brings the Child Welfare Board almost to full capacity.
Commissioners approved several items of new equipment requested by Larry Franks at the Elections Office including 18 computers for the voter check-in system at a cost of $25,780. Also approved were replacement modems for seven precincts and replacement batteries for mobile ballot boxes. They did not approve an ID Badging System for election judges and clerks, choosing to further discuss that item in a future meeting.
Commissioners heard public comments from Jewell Richmond whose concern was that Brown County only has one voting location open for Tuesday’s run-off election which he believes will hinder some voters and lead to voter suppression. All voting Tuesday is being done at the Elections Office at 613 N. Fisk. Voting boxes throughout the county will be open for the General Election this November.
Commissioners also chose to leave the Burn Ban in place and approved requests from Zephyr Water Supply to install a private line on County Road 329 and from the City of Bangs to install a private line on County Road 183.
