Brownwood News – Brownwood Police said on Saturday that the immediate threat to the community has subsided in reference to an incident on Thursday involving a man that was considered armed and dangerous.
35 year-old Selso Ortiz Martinez fled through alleyways, over fences and into various backyards with police in pursuit. According to police, at one point, Martinez unlawfully entered a residence in the 2400 block of 13th St where he confronted the female homeowner and small children. This family was able to barricade themselves in a back bedroom before fleeing to police officers who were positioned outside the window. It was believed that Martinez was inside the residence while officers were evacuating the family. Martinez has a felony warrant for his arrest for narcotic related charges. Police spotted Martinez in his car at the Brownwood Public Library parking lot, briefly gave chase but ended the pursuit for the general safety of the community.
In an email statement from Brownwood Police on Saturday: “The immediate threat to the community has subsided. Martinez continues to have a warrant for his arrest and more charges will come as we finalize the events of Thursday. At this time he is not considered a danger to the community.”
