Virginia Gossett was born November 3, 1943 in Brady, Texas to Van and Edith Gossett.  She grew up in the Elm Grove community, attending school in Richland Springs.  She attended San Angelo Junior College and North Texas State University, graduating with a Bachelors degree in Education from NTSU.

While attending church in Denton, she met her future husband, James Waller, and they were married June 5, 1966 at Elm Grove Baptist Church.  Virginia taught school for 20 years, including 18 years teaching math at Incarnate Word High School in Corpus Christi.  They later lived in Roanoke, Virginia where she became a Document Control Specialist at Kel Tech.  Virginia enjoyed traveling and during their 53 years of marriage, she and James visited most of the 50 states including Hawaii and Alaska.  While living in Virginia, they enjoyed taking bus tours, visiting many interesting places, including Canada.  In 2001, they visited the Peoples Republic of China, visiting ‘the forbidden city’ and walking ‘the Great Wall.’

In 2009, they moved to Brownwood, where Virginia cared for her mother until her death in 2014.  Virginia accepted Christ at an early age and attended church wherever she live.  It was her deep faith that helped her when she was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 2010 and meet its challenges.  Despite being confined to a wheelchair, Virginia and James traveled to several states, including Utah, visiting several national parks.  They also enjoyed cruises to Alaska, Hawaii and the Panama Canal.  Virginia’s pleasant smile inspired many people, especially at the end where she was cared for at Oakridge Manor, where she passed away March 16.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Van and Edith Gossett, and brother, Wayne Gossett.  She is survived by her husband James, children Julie and Keith, and a brother, Floyd.  She also leaves behind many other family members and friends.

Donations may be made to the Gideons International or to a favorite charity.

Funeral services for Virginia, will be held Friday, March 20, 2020 at 2 PM at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Cox Cemetery in McCulloch County.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday, March 19 at the funeral home.

Online memorials can be left at www.davismorrisfuneralhome.com
