Brownwood News – Brownwood High School (BHS) Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) participated in the 36th annual Teach Tomorrow Summit on February 20-22 in the McAllen Convention Center.

The organization’s website, TAFEonline.org, describes the event as “…a gathering of over 2,400 high school TAFE and their teacher leaders to celebrate their accomplishments and to explore and exchange ideas.” This year’s TAFE Theme is, “Oh the Places You’ll Go with Teaching!”

The TAFE Annual Teach Tomorrow Summit allows students to compete, earn scholarships, meet other students who want to be teachers, and speak to university representatives from the top schools. Students can compete in several events, such as Chapter Yearbook Contest, Differentiated Lesson Competition, and the Educational Leadership Fundamentals Test.

Mrs. Debbie Harwell is the sponsor, and Mrs. Stacee Hetzel is the Co-Sponsor for the BHS TAFE organization. BHS had the following ten students participating in the summit: Maddie Arial, Soraili Chavez, Riley Mertle, Alyssa Preston, Leslie Rodriguez, Jasyah Anderson, Emily Haynes, Giovanna Villagomez, Skyler Wells, Caitlyn Schwing, and Lyric Shaw.

BHS TAFE participants received several awards at the competition. Caitlyn Schwing and Lyric Shaw received a blue ribbon in the Interactive Bulletin Board competition for the Elementary School level. Maddie Arial and Riley Myrtle were awarded a red ribbon in the Project Visualize category. Also earning a red ribbon were Skyler Wells and Jashyah Anderson for Teacher Created Materials (Elementary level). Emily Haynes, Skyler Wells, Maddie Arial, Alyssa Preston, and Riley Mertle all received a Certificate of Excellence in Leadership Fundamentals.
