Brownwood News – Greg Dodds, President and CEO of TexasBank, regretfully announces the retirement of Charles Gravel and announces the promotion of Mattie Byler in Bangs, Texas.
Charles Gravel boasts a successful 32-year banking career beginning in March of 1982. He joined the TexasBank team in 2004 and currently serves as Vice President and Branch Manager in Bangs, Texas.
Charlie’s enthusiasm is contagious and have a positive effect on everyone he meets. He is devoted to helping his customers gain financial strength and build for their futures. Because of this devotion, Charlie has eared a strong, loyal customer base and network of friends.
“Charlie has been an integral part of TexasBank for over 16 years and we have been proud to have him lead our efforts in Bangs,” said Greg Dodds. “His integrity, attitude and commitment to community has served as an inspiration to his coworkers, customers and friends. We will certainly miss his daily presence at the Bangs location as well as his interaction with everyone within the TexasBank team, but we know that he will always be a member of our family.
Over the past 32 years, Gravel has been involved in numerous organizations giving back to the communities he has served including: Brown County Youth Fair, Bangs Community Youth Fair Fund, Bangs Mayfest, Brown County Child Welfare Board, Bangs Athletic Booster Club, Bangs Economic Development Board, Bangs Business Association, Brown County Crime Stoppers Assoc.,
“It has been an honor to work for TexasBank for the past 16 years. And working in a community such as Bangs, has made my job that much better! TexasBank is here to help the people with their needs when possible. I want to Thank all our customers that have and are doing business with us. TexasBank is a strong community bank,” said Gravel.
He and his wife Wilma Gravel have one son and three grandchildren, and they will reside in Brown County upon his retirement.

As Charles transitions into retirement, Mattie Byler, Bangs native will be promoted to Bank Officer – Branch Manager.
“In spite of Charlie’s departure, I am confident that the Bangs community will still be in good hands through Mattie Byler’s leadership,” stated Dodds. “Mattie’s infectious enthusiasm and desire to take care of her customers are consistent with TexasBank’s goals to continue to serve the Bangs community with today’s leading-edge financial products and unmatched service that only a local community bank can provide!”
Mattie Adams Byler started her banking career in 2007 with TexasBank as a teller. When she left for college, she continued her banking career, but re-joined the TexasBank team as a Mortgage Processor in 2016 and the Bangs branch since 2018.
“I’m honored and exited to be in Bangs and serve the community I grew up in.” says Mattie “I’m looking forward to re-connecting with people of my hometown and developing new relationships as well.” Byler explains, “It is also bittersweet to supersede Charlie Gravell because he has been a role model to me and a great mentor over the years. I contribute the success I’ve had in my career to Charlie for the advice he gave me early on and hope to honor his legacy here at the Bangs branch.”
Mattie is married to Matt Byler and they have one son, Jayton who attends Bangs ISD. She is active in the community and enjoys volunteering in various youth sport activities including coaching and refereeing basketball.
The community is invited to the TexasBank Bangs branch for a retirement celebration honoring Charles Gravel on Thursday, December 12 from 4-5pm.
