Man Wanted on Warrants Arrested After 65 Mile Pursuit

Brownwood News – The following calls for service were included in the most recent report from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, one which involved a 65 mile long pursuit.

On August 20, 2019, at approximately 20:22, a Deputy noticed a red passenger car stopped at the stop sign on Highway 279 and FM 2492. The driver of the vehicle was a white male who the Deputy identified from prior contacts. According to the report, the Deputy had prior knowledge the driver had an active blue warrant out for his arrest. After attempting to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle at FM 2492 and CR 105, the red passenger car led law enforcement on a 65-mile-long pursuit lasting around 40 minutes. The driver ultimately stopped at his residence where law officers were able to detain him at that time. After a probable cause search was initiated on the vehicle, a total amount of 2.3 grams of methamphetamine was located from inside the vehicle. The driver was ultimately arrested for a Blue Warrant, Evading with a Vehicle, F 3 and Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 1; 1 G><4 G, F 3.

Taken into custody was 54 year-old Reid Darwin Phelps, Jr. (shown in the photo) The Evading Arrest charge carries a $50,000 bond while the Possession of a Controlled Substance charge carries a $10,000 bond.

In other calls for service to Brown County SO:

On August 22, 2019, a Deputy was dispatched to FM 2492 and CR 105 in Brownwood in regards to a vehicle fire. A report was made.

On August 22, at about 06:44 hours, a Deputy arrived on West Main Blvd. in Brownwood in regards to an assault. The Deputy spoke to a victim who stated he believes his son-in-law, the suspect, hit him in the back of the head with a rock while he was feeding his animals.

A woman stated her landlord is harassing and threatening her family. The woman stated the landlord called stating he is going to burn the house down while her family is sleeping. The woman further stated the landlord said he was going to “get us”. The woman told the SO she was fearful the landlord will carry through on his threat.

On Thursday, August 22, at approximately 13:00, a Deputy met with the complainant at an address on FM 3100 in reference to a theft report and investigation.

On Thursday, August 22, at approximately 19:09, a Deputy was dispatched to an address on Highway 183 North in reference to an illegal dumping report and investigation.
