BrownwoodNews – January is School Board Recognition Month, and BISD is taking the opportunity to share with the community a little bit about each of our board members.  Please enjoy the following Q&A featuring Board President, Michael Cloy.

[adrotate group=”8″]

“Every time I see a child succeed or an educator receive recognition for their work, I feel gratitude, pride and confidence in what we do as board members. It is a privilege to serve the children, teachers and citizens of Brownwood.”

~Michael Cloy

Michael Cloy – Board President (Place One)

What would be a perfect day for you?

Watching the sunrise in the Rocky Mountains while camped with my family, cook a big breakfast, then spend the day hunting, fishing or exploring the mountains. The day ends around a campfire playing guitars and singing.

What is the last book you read?

The Lost City of the Monkey God by Douglas Preston

Favorite Movie or TV Series?

Lonesome Dove

Favorite Song/Artist?

Difficult question, I love all kinds of music. If I had to pick one artist or band to listen to the rest of my life, it would either be George Strait, Merle Haggard, or Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Favorite Food?

Cheeseburger

What is your ideal vacation?

Being in the mountains with my family; I love the American west. Either camping in the summer and riding ATVs, hunting in the fall or skiing in the winter.

IF you could invite anyone in the world to lunch (living), who would it be?

The President of the United States

What’s the most important lesson you learned from your parents?

Always work hard, take responsibility for your actions, and do your job to the best of your ability. In my family it was an honor if you were known as “a good hand.”

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

All of my children are followers of Christ.

What’s on your bucket list?

Another difficult question. I never really have had a bucket list, but I would like to spend time in every state in the United States – so far, I have spent quality time in 24 states and have at least passed through 30.

What was the motivation for you to become a BISD school board member?

My motivation for becoming a BISD school board member was simply to become more involved in the education of my own children, as well as the children of our community. I wanted to have more knowledge regarding the education process, and perhaps contribute to the policy and direction of Brownwood ISD. It is often said to me in conversation, that being a school board member is a thankless job; that is completely untrue. Every time I see a child succeed or an educator receive recognition for their work, I feel gratitude, pride and confidence in what we do as board members. It is a privilege to serve the children, teachers and citizens of Brownwood.
