Brownwood News – The Brown County Sheriff’s Office recently issued a press release regarding a phone scam targeting local citizens. The release reads as follows:

An individual identifying himself as JAMES MARSHALL from a Sheriff’s Office is calling local citizens stating a warrant has been issued for failure to report for Jury service. JAMES MARSHALL instructs the person to get a $1,500 Green Dot card for immediate payment or they will be arrested. MARSHALL keeps the citizen on the the phone line and will not disconnect with them. He is using high pressure and intimidation tactics.
A return call to this number was answered “SHERIFF’S OFFICE” and the person identified himself as JAMES MARSHALL.
If you receive a call such as this – DO NOT – give the individual any personal information or obtain a Green Dot car, iTunes car, Western Union Money Gram, etc. If in doubt call the Brown County Sheriff’s Office Warrants section at 325-646-5510.
