Richard McClain, age 71, of Blanket passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 4, 2018, at a local nursing home.
Funeral Services for Richard will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2018, at First Baptist Church of Blanket with Bro. Bill Slaymaker officiating; burial will follow at the Blanket Cemetery. Richard was born to Thomas Neil and Winnie Carol Elizabeth (Dewberry) McClain on July 20, 1947, in Brownwood, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Blanket. Richard met the woman of his dreams, Nikkie Gail Mansfield McClain in Salisbury, Maryland; they had 2 amazing children, Michelle and Robert.
Richard owned R&D Repair with his older brother, Don McClain. Richard soon retired but still worked on small engines. In his spare time, he liked to fish and hunt. He leased out his land for deer hunting; he could hardly wait to see the first kill of the season.
He enjoyed having coffee at the local general store to catch up on the small-town news. Richard also liked to fish with his friends Sam Stuart, Henry Floyd and Mike Caldwell; even going fishing alone when he knew he shouldn’t. His most favorite thing to do was have fish fries and BBQ with his family and friends.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Michelle Darden and husband Carey; 3 grandchildren, Lauren Musick and husband Chance, Selina Griffin and husband Ethan, and Roston McClain; 2 little great-grandsons, Brayden and Ethan Musick; and 1 great-granddaughter on the way, Kori Griffin. He is also survived by his loving brothers and sisters, Gladys Jackson, Johnny McClain, Jerry McClain, Charlie McClain, Cindy McClain, Suzy Ressler, Denice Hubbard, and David McClain; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gail McClain; son, Robert McClain; parents, Thomas and Winnie McClain; brothers and sisters, Don McClain, Mary Miller, Leroy McClain, Royce Wayne McClain and Jimmy McClain.
