Brownwood News – Brown County Home Solutions (BCHS) has been afforded an opportunity to partner with Texas Baptist Men: Volunteer Builders. A group of 20-30 volunteer builders will be coming to Brownwood the second week of September with the sole purpose of building 3 houses for Legacy Village.

Legacy Village will ultimately house 16 small houses for individuals and families of Brown County who are homeless or in imminent danger of becoming homeless.
In order to be ready for the team when they arrive, Brown County Home Solutions must:
1) Plan, recruit and schedule volunteers to prepare one hot meal at noon each day plus snacks for morning and afternoon breaks;
2) Locate, secure and provide RV spots and utilities for approximately 20 campers for two weeks;
3) Purchase all building materials needed for the construction of 3 houses (maybe 4) plus have foundations poured and cured.
Providing a hot meal one day might be a project a church or service organization would like to help BCHS provide. Interested groups can send BCHS an email at [email protected] or call 325-998-2425 to put their name in the “pot”.
“We are working with the City of Brownwood to secure RV spots near the new fire station and they are being very helpful,” said Angelia Bostick, Director of Brown County Home Solutions. “In order to purchase the building materials plus the RV spots, we will need to raise $110,000. We are doing that by writing grants and giving businesses and individuals an opportunity to support this project through monetary donations. So far, we have raised $36,000.”
Brown County Home Solutions is asking churches to prayerfully consider pledging a monthly offering for ongoing operating expenses. As each house is built and occupied, the service fees, utilities and insurance rates will increase. A monthly gift of any amount would help the organization meet their goal of finding homes for those in need in Brown County. The organization is currently receiving donations from Coggin Ave Baptist, Victory Baptist, Central Methodist, Crossroads Baptist, First Christian, Union Presbyterian, and Calvary Baptist.
“We want to give individuals, businesses, clubs and other groups in the community an opportunity to leave a legacy of caring and hope for our homeless neighbors in Brown County by giving toward our $110,000 goal. The construction of houses in September will complete Phase I of 3 and provide housing for 8-10 local individuals who are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless,” Bostick said.
