Brownwood News – Shortly after midnight a Brownwood Police Officer was assisting another officer on a call located in the1300 block of Avenue D when he observed a white Chevrolet passenger car stop in the roadway next to his patrol unit. According to reports from the Brownwood Police Department, the officer shined a hand-held flashlight at the vehicle which then sped off and ran a stop sign at 1st Street and Avenue D.
The officer pursued and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle which resulted in the arrest of David Moreno, of Early, for Driving While Intoxicated, 3rd or more offense.

Sunday, March 4th
Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Simpson along with Deputy Burke responded to Shamrock Drive in regards to a disorderly conduct. Upon arriving on scene, Deputy Simpson found out a .22 mag revolver was taken out of a drawer in the house, but never was pointed at anyone or taken out of the holster. A male complainant was outside the residence with two witnesses and a male suspect. All subjects stated there was a verbal argument earlier that evening between the male complainant and the male suspect. A female witness to the altercation believed it was “going to get out of control” and she retrieved the handgun. There were no visible injuries on any of the subjects. A report was made, and parties were separated.
Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Mathis was dispatched at 3:00 a.m. to Brownwood Regional Medical Center for a report of a male being stabbed. The deputy arrived and made contact with Brownwood PD Officers. Brownwood PD advised the man was stabbed in the upper right bicep during an altercation. A suspect in the stabbing was named and the investigation is ongoing.
Brown County Corporal Fletcher performed a traffic stop in the 2900 block of Franke Street for an improper turn signal. During a consent search, a pistol was found under the car. It was determined the front seat passenger, identified in the report as Shaneese Kirven, was a felon, and had allegedly thrown the gun under the car during the traffic stop in an attempt to dispose of it. Kirven was arrested for Unlawful Possession of Firearm by Felon and Tampering with Evidence. During a follow up search of the scene, 0.4 grams of methamphetamine and 1.6 grams of marijuana were found on the roadside where it appeared Kirven had disposed of the contraband as well.
Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Langley arrived at Park Street in Brownwood at 2:46 p.m. in regards to an unwanted person. The deputy spoke to a female complainant, who stated her ex-husband, identified in the report as Ronald Scott Melling, had kicked in the locked back door to her and her boyfriend’s residence. The female complainant told the deputy she felt Melling’s intention was to harm her and her boyfriend. She also stated her ex-husband had pointed a pistol at the residence, after being confronted, and threatened to kill her and her boyfriend. Ronald Scott Melling was located and placed under arrest and transported to the Brown County Jail.
Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Simpson, along with Deputy Langley and Corporal Fletcher, responded to Hwy 279 N. in regards to a female being shot. The caller was an off duty Early Police Officer. Upon arriving at CR 130, where the shots were coming from, one male was taken into custody. The suspect stated he was shooting his Anderson built 300 Blackout rifle, but did not know someone was struck.
Monday, March 5th
6:07 p.m. Brownwood Police responded to the 3900 block of US 377 in reference to a disturbance. According to the report, officers arrested Talmadge Hartley, of Brownwood, for Aggravated Assault/Family with a Weapon.
9:57 p.m. Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Avenue A in reference to a theft.
