Tom Orsak began his career in outdoor advertising as a commercial artist after studying at Angelo State University. Upon retiring, he started a specialty business as a contract painter of posters and murals for a nationwide client base. However, the business was short lived as technology began to dominate advertising. Tom left to pursue other ventures with limited success. It was during this time he decided to return to his roots as an artist. He studied and painted with several renowned artists in developing his own style and philosophy of painting. Tom has shown artwork in many venues and won numerous awards in both Regional and National exhibitions. In 2016, Tom was one of the 35 selected artists to compete in the National En Plein Air Texas event held in San Angelo,Texas.
He instructs painting demonstrations and workshops in central and west Texas and continues to promote en plein air as a necessary step towards the development of the “Artist Eye”. Tom paints in oils and sometimes watercolor, but finds acrylics cater more to his style of painting. He explains, “I paint fast and furious in order to capture the essence of light and acrylics compliment me every step of the way.”
Orsak will also present a free demonstration at the Art Center on March 10th from 1:30 to 3 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the demonstration and learn more about his technique.
