On September 27, 2017, a group of family and friends gathered around Joyce’s bedside as she waited on the call from her Heavenly Father to come home to live forever.
She may not have been aware of our chatter as we relived precious memories and times past that we had shared together with her as we walked the endless miles on this earth, but we certainly knew we were losing a “special friend.”
She had many visitors in her final days at BRMC, as they came to pay their final respects to a “grand lady.”
Joyce was born on April 15, 1936 in Mills County to Ernest and his sweet wife, Gladys (Daniel) Stanley.
As she was born into a ranching family perhaps that is why she chose her mate and husband to continue her life in the same style in the small country town of Grosvenor.
Moving to Grosvenor upon her marriage, she spent her last 64 years in this community with the exception of her last couple of years when she was forced to move “into town” for her special care at The Chatfield and Oak Ridge Manor.
She is survived by two brothers, Bill Stanley and wife Sharla of Sidney and M. D. Stanley of Early; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews are left to cherish her memories.
Her caregivers, Dickie and Wyvetta Smiley Casey will also miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her husband Martin J. Byrd in 1980 and her son Larry Byrd in 2008. She lost her parents several years past.
She has been associated with Grosvenor Baptist Church for the last 64 years of her life.
Special thanks to Pastor David Barnum and the Grosvenor Baptist Church family for their devotion to Joyce.
Perhaps if we glance upward, we will see a twinkling star as Joyce dances on the streets of gold.
Rest in peace loved one and we will join you in the hereafter.
