Brownwood News – A box truck collided with an 18-wheeler hauling a Solaris silo on 377 South around 5:25 p.m. near Brookesmith. Brown County Sheriff’s Deputies, State Troopers, Brownwood Fire Department as well as the Brookesmith and Winchell Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the accident.

Two people inside the box truck required emergency medical care. One individual was transported by helicopter from the scene. The second person was transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center and was expected to be transported by helicopter later. The driver of the 18-wheeler did not have any reported injuries.
Traffic was backed up for over an hour as crews worked to clear debris from the roadway.
According to DPS officers on scene, the 18-wheeler hauling the silo was traveling south on 377. The box truck was headed north, towards Brownwood. The two vehicles met on a narrow strip of road. Reportedly the 18-wheel driver moved over as far as possible, but was hauling an oversized load. The box truck struck the side of the 18-wheeler, and also struck a second truck traveling behind.
The box truck traveled for a short distance after striking the sides of the two trucks, before crashing through a fence and stopping in a field. The driver’s side of the vehicle sustained extensive damage.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. More details will be updated to this article when possible.
