Dear Editor,

On Wednesday, June 21, 2017, a wide-ranging Emergency Response Drill was conducted on the grounds of the Brownwood Middle School, coordinated by Chief Terry Nichols of the Brownwood Police Department. This drill was carried out by members of the Brownwood Police and Fire departments, Early Police and Fire departments, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Brownwood Regional Medical Center and area emergency rescue agencies.

In the early months of planning this drill, Chief Nichols invited Superintendent Joe Young of Brownwood ISD to participate, thus providing the District an excellent training opportunity. Working in conjunction with Chief Nichols and all of the departments and agencies represented, the school district was able to carry out a full review of our safety plans and procedures, honing our skills and better preparing ourselves in the event of disasters of varying origins.

Months of planning and training went into this drill process, with the men and women who participated giving their all to best prepare themselves and their agencies to respond to the needs of our students, faculty and staff. Their selfless dedication to our district and the general public was readily evident during the process. Additionally, BISD personnel dedicated extensive reviews of their emergency processes and prepared additional training that will be given to our faculty and staff for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year.

The Brownwood Independent School District is committed to educating our students to the highest degree of excellence we cari achieve. We place a strong emphasis on keeping the students in our care as safe and protected as possible. We are extremely grateful for the training made available to us by our local partners. Witnessing the high degree of their professionalism, skills and compassion has bolstered our efforts and better prepared us to care for the kids of this community. We extend our deepest gratitude and respect to them all.

Thankfully,

Priscilla Monson
