Brownwood News – On Wednesday, June 21, BISD personnel and volunteers will participate in a wide-ranging Emergency Response Drill in conjunction with the Brownwood Police Department and Emergency Response teams. The drill will be staged at the Brownwood Middle School and will entail numerous law enforcement, emergency response, and BISD personnel and vehicles. The Brownwood Police Department has developed several emergency scenarios that will play out in real time, utilizing BISD personnel, volunteers, local law enforcement personnel, emergency response personnel, and BRMC employees.

Working together, representatives from all of these entities will walk through the actions necessary for the appropriate response to several emergency situations, allowing the needed review of emergency procedures and plans in place to provide the proper care for our students, faculty and staff.
Brownwood ISD Superintendent Joe Young said, “BISD is extremely grateful to Chief Terry Nichols, our law enforcement and emergency response community, and the staff of BRMC in allowing us to join their drill to hone our emergency procedures. While we pray that dangerous situations will never occur on our campuses, we know that they are real possibilities and that we must be prepared for them each and every day. Our number one goal as a district is the safety and well-being of our students and staff. This exercise is a microscopic review of our procedures, from the moment we receive a call that a situation has occurred to the last minute of response and care of every person affected. This is rich training ground for us, and we are extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with local professionals to insure that we have the most effective plans in place to care for our people. The cooperation of these groups with BISD has been phenomenal and speaks well of the quality and professionalism of each group represented.”
The public may see numerous emergency vehicles and personnel at the BMS and BHS campuses on June 21. Please do not be alarmed, as the drill is carefully planned for training use only. Additionally, BISD school buses and personnel will be seen moving between campuses and the hospital. The drill requires this movement and again should not be perceived as a real emergency. All movement that day will be indicative of only the drill planned.
A thorough review of the drill will be conducted by each entity involved, allowing for the refinement of plans and procedures if needed to assure the most efficient and effective plans are in place for our children’s well-being.
