Together with the BRMC Heart Center, the interventional cardiology services are provided by the cardiologists from Central Texas Heart and Vascular and the Cardiac Team. The BRMC Heart Center houses the catheterization laboratory and offers many diagnostic services including: Pacemaker implantation and follow-up check, Echocardiography, Holter monitoring, Stress testing, Nuclear Medicine Scans, Elective catheterization lab procedures for Coronary Angiogram, Coronary Angioplasty, Vascular Angiogram, Vascular Angioplasty and now the 24/7, 365 cardiovascular emergency and heart attack care.
Team members work closely with the BRMC Emergency Room for patients who present with different types of cardiology or vascular issues.
The Catheterization Lab team is on call 24/7 and knows that timing is critical. To quickly be able to offer a treatment option for the ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) has shown a reduction in mortality. The results of the quick response for the door-to-balloon (angioplasty/possible stent(s) placement) treatment will often mean less heart damage. BRMC has never before offered such specialized services for heart related issues to the residents of Brownwood and the surrounding area. The cardiologists at Central Texas Heart and Vascular are pleased to offer the 24/7 interventional cardiology program along many other cardiac services to the community.
To celebrate the additional service, there will be an Open House for the BRMC Heart Center on Thursday, June 15, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Anticipation for this significant event has grown. As BRMC was preparing and waiting on the arrival and installation of the new cardiac equipment, the decision was made to house a Catheterization Lab in a mobile unit. The addition of the mobile unit allowed BRMC to offer the cardiac services to our community in a more timely manner. It became operational in September 2016. The cardiology program became very active and has had many success stories. The hospital will now house the catheterization laboratory within the Heart Center area and will be hosting the Open House to celebrate with refreshments and an opportunity to visit with the Cardiac Care Team.
