Brownwood News – Brownwood Police were led on a brief pursuit after a caller advised dispatch of a reckless driver traveling from Bangs to Brownwood.
The reported driver was intercepted by police near the old fire station on Austin Avenue. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver failed to pull over for some distance. After finally stopping, the driver fled in the vehicle before officers could make contact, driving the vehicle directly towards an officer, who was able to move out of the way unharmed.

Due to high speeds, traffic volume, and the desire to uphold the safety of the community, commanding officers with the Brownwood Police Department made the decision to end the pursuit as the driver was approaching busy intersections near HWY 377 and HWY 84/183, known as the Traffic T.
The driver struck a curb near Kwik Kar, shattering the windshield and disabling the tires on the vehicle. At that point, officers took the suspect into custody.
A female was transported to the Brown County Jail and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Evading Arrest in a Vehicle, and Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer.
More details will be released after officers have finished filing their reports.
