BISD Press Release – On Wednesday, February 1st, over 20 BHS AVID Students took a field trip to the Challenger Learning Center at the TSTC Campus in Waco, TX. During the visit, made possible through a generous gift from Kohler, the students were assigned a job or task on a simulated space shuttle. “Students had to use critical thinking skills to solve problems on a space mission,” said BHS AVID Coordinator and Elective Teacher, Joey Wilbourn. “They had to collaborate. These are skills we work on every week in AVID.”

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a nation-wide college readiness program that challenges students to be their best in the classroom.
“Students really enjoyed the experience,” stated Wilbourn, noting that the visit was definitely a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) learning experience. “We want to thank our friends at Kohler for making this possible.”
