Lionettes2016

The Brownwood High School Lionettes dance and drill team attended camp at Southern Methodist University in June and were chosen as an All-American Team.  This title allows the Lionettes several performance opportunities including the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade two different years (2013 and 2015) and one opportunity to perform in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl (2014).

In addition to performance opportunities, some of the other honors the Lionettes earned at camp:

All-American Team of the Day on the second day of camp
Jr. All American Kick Company – Ivy Townsend
Sr. All American Kick Company – Katelynn Stile
Marching Drill Down Award – Cora McNeese
Outstanding Dancer/Performer – Alicia Vallecillo
All American Honorable Mention dancers – Maddie Soto and Katelynn Stile
All American Dancers – Alicia Vallecillo & Cora McNeese

On the last day of the camp, the Lionettes were given a Diamond Sweepstakes award, Home Routine Award, and named All-American Team of the Week.

“What an honor these past few years have been,” said Lionettes Director Stacee Hetzell who explained that due to the expense of the bigger trips, this year the Lionettes have chosen a less expensive opportunity.

The Lionettes will participate in the pre-game performance of the San Antonio Spurs game on October 29th. The cost is approximately $120 per dancer and this includes their costume, ticket into game, and meal voucher.  Fundraising is currently underway to help members cover the cost of this one day trip.

Supports should be on the lookout for the “You’ve Been Booted by a BHS Lionette” boots in the yard, said Hetzel.  She explained how the fundraiser works.

“If you receive a boot in your yard, you can place a donation of $20 in the envelope connected to the back of the boot and select the next recipient of the boot. The Lionettes will be moving the boots each evening,” Hetzel stated.  “We also understand if you choose to not donate, please just leave us a note and we will move it.”

Another upcoming fundraiser is the 3rd annual Boots & Burlap Dinner and Dance that the Lionette Spirit Club is sponsoring on November 12th. Tickets are $30 per person and includes a shrimp boil dinner and a dancing to the music of Kelly Spinks & the Miles of Texas.  Please contact Stacee Hetzel (325-642-7379) or any Lionette parent for tickets.

“I could not have been more proud of these young ladies. Camp was at full capacity this year and the competition was tough,” said Hetzel.  “With several days of stress and no sleep, they still worked hard with a smile on their face and a great attitude.”
