Early Pioneer Days is set to kick off on September 16th and 17th with family fun, competitions and concerts on Saturday night at the Early City Park.
The public is invited to take part in the Pioneer Man/Woman contests. The Pioneer Woman contest will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the Pioneer Man competition at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 17th.
Early registration fees are $15. Registration fees increase to $20 on September 1st.
The Pioneer Man/Woman course will consist of “round bale climbin’, square bale stackin’, tire flippin’, sledge hammer draggin’, plow pushin’ and tractor pull (which will be an ATV).” The man and woman who completes the course in the fastest time will be named the “2016 Pioneer Man” and “2016 Pioneer Woman,” each will be awarded a plaque.
This marks the 4th year for Early Pioneer Days. This festival-style event has seen tremendous growth over the last three years and this year will be no different, according to organizers. Additions such as State Farm Pioneer Man Contest, county fair theme contest: pie and hot dog eating contest as well as sack races, three legged races, wheel barrel races, horse shoes and washers. The event kicks off on Friday, September 16th with the South Park Medical Plaza BBQ Cook-off. The cook-off is a Lone Star Sanctioned event.
