Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford announced that the Brownwood Coliseum is open once again for local events and activities after an engineer’s report cleared the structure as sound, usable and safe.
After a small piece of the coliseum’s ceiling fell during the Fellowship of Christian Athlete’s All-Star basketball games in June, the City of Brownwood closed the facility to events until the structure could be evaluated by an engineer. The games were immediately moved to the Brownwood High School gym.
SKG Engineering of San Angelo evaluated the coliseum’s structure, stating that the structure, as far as the roof and ceiling, was safe, sound and usable. The engineer recommended a repair product (SikaRepair SHB) to put on the spot where a piece, approximately 2.5 inches in length, fell from the ceiling. According to Crawford, this repair product will be used to fill the small void left in the ceiling and city staff plans to find a local contractor to apply the product.
Crawford stated that the next event to come to the Coliseum will be a large event this coming weekend. Next weekend, August 6th, West Texas Rehab will present their annual tribute fundraiser in the coliseum “Beatles vs. Rolling Stones.”
