Brownwood Emergency Management officials report that the National Weather Service has updated the projections for Lake Brownwood water levels and now predict the lake to crest by mid-day on Friday.

The Lake Brownwood water shed received 1-2 inches of rain fall over night.  The NWS expects the lake to crest at 1429-1429.5 feet by mid-day Friday, according to Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford.

“This is approximately the same water level as the flood in July 2015.  However, contrary to July 2015, Adam’s Branch and Willis Creek are not at capacity, so water levels in town are not expected to be as high,” stated Crawford in a recent email.

A sand bag station will be available to the public at the former Higginbotham’s location at 1500 Center Avenue by 11:00 a.m. Thursday.  It is a self-service station, so be prepared to bag and load your own.  The public is also reminded to bring shovels and gloves.

As updates are available, they will be issued via press releases to the media, City website www.brownwoodtexas.gov, City of Brownwood and Brownwood/Brown County Emergency Management Facebook pages, and Code Red alerts.

Emergency Management officials urge citizens with businesses, residences and properties prone to flooding to take precautionary measures.
