David Jackson

JacksonDavidDavid R. Jackson, 84, of Brownwood, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday February 5, 2016. Funeral services, under the directions of Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche, will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday February 11, 2016, at the Heartland Chapel.  The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until service time on Thursday.  Interment will follow at the Stagg Creek Cemetery with military honors. Condolences to the family can be left online at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.

David was born January 30, 1932, in Brownwood, TX, to Whaley Wagnon and Velma (Barr) Jackson, the oldest of three children.  He graduated from Rising Star High School.  After graduation, David began his studies at Tarleton University and later transferred to the University of Texas in Austin where he graduated with a Business degree.  Following college, David joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Japan.  After his military service, David began working for Sears Roebuck and Company and remained until his retirement.  In the early 70s he began ranching operations on a place east of Austin and then in 2000 moved to Brownwood and continued ranching in Comanche County.  He enjoyed hunting for the sport and camaraderie, often going to Colorado to hunt elk with family and friends.  He also enjoyed fishing and won several awards and trophies for his fishing contests.  David was a faithful Christian and worshiped most recently at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church in Brownwood where he was an active member of the Gideon organization.

David is survived by sons, Bruce Jackson of Austin TX; Mike Jackson of Dunwoody, GA, and Ken Jackson of Austin, TX; daughter, Linda Jackson Kida and husband Joe of Austin, TX; sister, Janis Lain and husband James of Sipe Springs, TX; grandchildren, Lauren, Lisa, and Julie Kida, Tommy, Katherine, and Madelyn Jackson; numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Stovall Jackson; his parents Whaley and Velma Jackson; his sister, Francis Valentine and his daughter-in-law, Christine Jackson.
