Billy Ray Mitchell

MitchellBillySrGraveside services for Billy Mitchell, Sr. will be Friday, October 17, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Eastlawn Memorial Park with a Department of Public Safety flag presentation. Interment will follow in the cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at Heartland Funeral Home Early, Texas.

Mr. Mitchell passed away Monday at Scott and White Hospital Temple, Texas.

Billy was born December 18, 1937 in Tye, Texas to James Louie and Mary Genease Dumis Mitchell. He was married to Peggy Jo Tiller. Billy attended school in Abilene graduating from Abilene High in 1955. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Summit County, USS Cook County and the USS Stone County. He also served as a Fireman with the Abilene Fire Department. Billy served as a state trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety for 33 years, he was stationed in Mc Camey, Texas, Sweetwater, Texas, Abilene, Texas, and Brownwood, Texas. He was presently living in Temple, Texas. He was a Baptist. Billy loved to fish, hunt, work with stained glass and ceramics.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Jo, daughter Genie Brisco and husband Jim of Belton, son William Mitchell, Jr. and wife Gaylan and their children Nathan and Grant of Early. He is also survived by granddaughter Laura Arevalo and husband Chris and their daughter Eliana of Temple. A sister Linda Morris and husband Bob of Austin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers James Mitchell, Jerry Mitchell and Ronnie Mitchell.
Heartland Funeral Home of Early is in charge of arrangements.
