A man from Bangs was killed in a two-vehicle accident in Taylor County on Wednesday night.  Texas Department of Public Safety officials confirmed that 28-year-old Timothy Allen Shepard of Bangs was killed in the accident.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred at 6:23 PM on US Hwy 277, 9 miles south of Abilene.  Trooper Joshua DeLaGarza investigated the accident scene.

According to the report, a 2007 Peterbilt 330 truck was traveling North on US 277 through a curved portion of roadway when it crossed into the southbound lanes into oncoming traffic.  A 2012 Chevrolet Colorado pickup, driven Shepard, was reported to be traveling south at this time, the report states.

The driver of the Peterbilt steered to the left as Shepard steered to the right, according to DeLaGarza’s report.  The Peterbilt struck Shepard’s vehicle in the southbound lanes pushing it into the barrow ditch and trapping it under the Peterbilt, the report states. Both vehicles caught fire and burned according to the trooper’s report.

Shepard was pronounced dead at the scene by Judge Bobby Shea.  His body was taken to Abilene Professional Services Funeral Home.

The 26-year-old male driver of the Peterbilt, who is from Abilene, was transported to Hendrick Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries and in stable condition, according to the report.  The weather was clear/cloudy and the roadway was dry according to the trooper’s report.

The crash is still under investigation.
