A theft at a nail salon led to the arrest of a Brownwood woman on multiple charges Monday evening.
At approximately 6:20 p.m., Brownwood Police were dispatched to Solar Nails, located at 553 W. Commerce regarding possible forgery. Once the officer arrived on scene, he was also informed that a theft of a cell phone had also occurred. According to the report, the male employee at the salon stated that he believed that the female seated at his nail station had stolen his iPhone5, which he had placed on the table while he was working. The female, identified as 24-year-old Christina Beronica Gomez of Brownwood, was the only person in that area at the time the phone disappeared, the report states.
The employee provided the officer with a check Gomez had paid him with, which was not in her name, for the amount of $120.00. According to the report, Gomez stated that the check was from a woman her mother works for and that it was payment for work. However, after checking with dispatch, the checks were stolen during a burglary of a vehicle which had occurred on Sunday, June 22nd, as was the snake print purse that Gomez was carrying, the report states.
The officer then checked inside the purse and found an iPhone 5 which was identified by the employee as the missing phone, the report states. Gomez stated that she had just purchased the phone at a local pawn shop, according to the report.
Gomez was arrested for forgery of a financial instrument and was placed in handcuffs. According to the report, a female officer assisted and, upon searching Gomez, found in the crotch of Gomez’s shorts a glass pipe with what was believed to be methamphetamine residue along with a blue plastic baggy containing what appeared to be methamphetamine.
The salon employee wished to pursue charges and Gomez was additionally charged with theft of services equal or greater than $500 less than $1500. She was also charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than 1 gram and possession of drug paraphernalia.
