Lake Brownwood State Park will open their first mountain bike trail, the Nopales Ridge Trail, this Saturday, March 8th, along with a grand opening celebration and 5K run/walk. According to officials at the park, the addition of the bike trail will enhance the park experience for all who visit.
“This is good for our park and our community as it will provide another activity for our customers to enjoy,” said State Park Police/Park Interpreter Stephen Gober.
Bike trails are a great way to exercise and are also therapeutic, according to Gober.
“We are dedicated to providing outdoor recreation opportunities to connect people with the natural and cultural resources around them,” Gober stated. “A trail provides a way to escape the stresses of everyday and connect directly with nature. We are very excited to provide this to the people of Brownwood and everyone else that enjoys this park already.”
Volunteers helped park officials prepare for the new 3 mile bike trail’s opening, by participating in a clean-up day which was hosted at the Lake Brownwood State Park on Saturday, February 22nd.
A ribbon cutting was also held by Brownwood Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, March 4th to mark the opening of the Nopales Ridge Trail. Pictured are Lake Brownwood State Park officials cutting the ribbon for the new trail with Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce ambassadors.

Lake Brownwood State Park is one of the area’s treasures. The Civilian Conservation Corps, helped develop this park and numerous others over 70 years ago. The park is located at 200 State Highway Park Road 15, just 16 miles northwest of Brownwood. Activities include picnicking, camping, hiking (2.5 miles of hiking trails and a 0.5-mile nature trail), boating (motors allowed), water skiing (jet skis allowed), fishing, nature study, swimming (in an unsupervised swimming area), and bird watching. And now the bike trail will open and is added to this list of activities to enjoy while at Lake Brownwood State Park.
