Edna Willene Holt, age 90, of Bangs passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 after an extended illness.
She was born at her parent’s farm house, in Bangs, Texas on October 17, 1923, she was Nannie and Will McGaughey’s only child. She was baptized at the Bangs cotton gin the summer of 1936 and was a member of Bangs First Baptist Church. Willene graduated from Bangs High School in 1941 and was president of her senior class. She attended Texas Woman’s College in Denton from 1941-43, majoring in Home Economics. During WWII, she married Santa Anna boy, Sgt. Barney Ford Holt, at the preacher’s house in Coleman, TX on August 24, 1943.
She lived in Coleman, Bangs, Stephenville, Plainview, Anson, Snyder, Abilene, and Brownwood. She worked 25 years at Brownwood Community Hospital as Assistant Director of Medical Records. She was a proud homemaker, seamstress, and incredible cook-well known for her yeast rolls and pecan pie. Her love of community, family, history, and Christian faith were deep.
She is survived by her husband, Ford Holt; children, Glenn Holt of Bangs, Lynn Holt and wife Judy of Denton, Janice Young of Goldthwaite, and Becky Sloan and husband Jon of Round Rock; grandchildren, Juli Smiddy and husband Mike of Allen, Kris Holt and wife Patty of Lavon, Richard Holt of Houston, Pam Holt of Irving, Michael Harvey of Austin, Stephen Harvey and wife Shannon of Abilene, Brian Harvey and wife Christi of Goldthwaite, Carly-Will Sloan of Memphis, TN, Nan Sloan of Ft. Worth. Willene also was proud to have nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nannie and Will McGaughey; grandchildren, Lacy Holt and Robert Holt.
The family would like to thank the Oakridge Manor Nursing Home and Solaris Hospice in Brownwood for their kind and compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Paul Blake officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-2, prior to services. A private family interment will follow after services.
