The local contest for the NFL’s Punt, Pass, and Kick was held Tuesday evening at Coggin Park. Several participants entered, from ages 6 to 13. Each contestant was given one chance for a punt, a pass and a kick. The events were then scored based on the distance.
For scoring, the judges used a tape measure that was laid out directly in front of the starting mark. Points were taken away from the total according to the distance the football landed to either side of the tape measure. After all three events were completed, the totals were added together to give each participant a final score.
Pictured above are the 12-13 year-old division participants. Their results are as follows:
1st Place: Kason King of Zephyr 197 feet 2 inches.
Second Place: Branson Koepp 172 feet 10 inches.
Third Place: Jakob Dorsett 149 feet 2 inches.
The 6-7 year-old division participants are pictured below with results as follows:
First Place: Quinten McCarty 86 feet 0 inches
Second Place: Evan Escobar 76 feet 1 inch
Third Place: Braeden Stacks 66 feet 10 inches
Although this year had more participants than last year, City of Brownwood Parks and Recreation Manager David Withers stated he looks forward to more participation in future Punt, Pass and Kick events. It was also noted that there weren’t any participants in the girls’ divisions.
“I wished we could have had more participants. With this event, we work with the NFL and it is a free event,” Withers said
