Brown County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Brownwood man at approximately 4:26 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9th after a traffic violation on drug related charges. According to the report, a BCSO investigator observed the vehicle fail to signal a turn and advised a nearby deputy of the offense. The deputy then initiated a stop in the area of 9th Street and US Hwy 377 South according to the officer’s report. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 27-year-old Daniel Santos Morales, Jr., continued traveling on Hwy 377S and then turned onto the 500 block of 6th Street where he pulled the vehicle over and then fled on foot southbound toward 7th Street, the report states. The responding deputy deployed his taser during the footchase; however missed hitting Morales, but was able to catch him when Morales fell to the ground, the report states.
Because of Morales’ size, the deputy used the taser in stun mode to gain control and secure him in handcuffs, the deputy reported. After being identified, Morales’ vehicle was searched due to the search clause related to his being on probation, according to the report. An Arizona Tea Canister with a false compartment held numerous small plastic baggies consistent with the packaging of methamphetamine for sales and distribution and a black pouch which contained a crystalline substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine, the report states. Morales was placed under arrest and charged with evading arrest/detention, resisting arrest, and manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance penalty group 1 greater than 4 grams less than 200 grams in a drug free zone because he had possessed the controlled substance within 1000 feet of the Howard Payne University women’s softball field.
