The City of Brownwood Water Department recently received an award from the Texas Municipal Utilities Association (TMUA).
The 2013 Outstanding Municipal Utility Award was presented to Assistant Division Director of Public Works David Harris and accepted by Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes at Tuesday morning’s city council meeting.
The plaque states that the City of Brownwood received the award “In recognition of the city’s innovation and leadership to its customers and the entire water industry.”
Mayor Haynes explained that many employees go to work and punch a clock, doing their only what is required of their job, but that this was not the case with Harris.
“David is certainly the exception to that rule. He is always looking for ways to improve our city,” said Haynes. “In 2007, he brought pipe bursting technology, which the city has shared over and over with other cities. The SCADA system was implemented, allowing the identification of water leaks, helping to repair them more quickly. Most recently, David has worked on the design of the water reuse plant. He is always pushing for innovation and helping our city to become a great city and for that we thank you and are proud to receive this award on behalf of the entire city.”
The Texas Municipal Utilities Association (TMUA) was organized in 1925 to promote the proficiency of the utility management profession and utility operations.
