The Brownwood Lions won four consecutive games Saturday to qualify for this year’s 7-on-7 state football tournament.
The Lions defeated Robinson 40-26 in the semifinals of the state qualifier after taking down Bandera 21-7, Gatesville 28-6, and Brady 34-7 in pool play.
This state qualifier was moved from Gatesville because of rain with pool play taking place in Copperas Cove and the semifinals in Belton. The pool games were also cut in half from the normal 50 minute game.
The Lions have qualified for the state tournament every year since 2000 and won the state Division II title in 2010.
Other teams qualifying for the Division II state tournament so far include Burnet, Cameron, Carthage, Celina, Coleman, Crandall, Edna, Episcopal (Houston), Fairfield, Graham, Jasper, Kinkaid (Houston), Kountze, La Grange, Lorena, McGregor, Navasota, Rice (Altair), Rockdale, Springtown, Stephenville, Wills Point, and Wylie (Abilene)
This year’s 7-on-7 Division II state tournament will take place July 11-12 at Southwest Williamson County Regional Park in Leander.
