The Brownwood High School one-act play version of Peter Pan advanced from the Area II contest hosted on the campus of Angelo State University on Saturday, and the group will now prepare for the Regional competition next week.
The group competed against five other schools in the Area round that had advanced from their respective districts.
UIL critic judge, Dr. Bill Doll, indicated he truly “did not want to grow up” after seeing the performance. He said he was whisked away into a magical world and was fascinated by the ensemble work and the obvious closeness of the cast and the great fun they were having on stage.
BHS theatre director Larry Mathis said that it will be an extremely quick turnaround before the Region competition as the group will leave Wednesday for rehearsals on the campus of Texas Tech University followed by the performance on Thursday.
“I am very proud of all the kids – cast, crew, alternates and substitutes,” Mathis said. “Everyone contributed to our advancing.”
Individual awards in the Area round went to Kimberly Boswell (Wendy), honorable mention All Star Cast; Trey Fawcett, All Star Cast and Meredith Underwood (Peter Pan), Best Actress.
The one-act play will offer another public performance at 7:30 PM Tuesday night at Brownwood High School.
