Brownwood Police have received multiple reports recently where graffiti was found in public places and at businesses in Brownwood. The first report came Saturday morning at Coggin Park prior to the community Easter egg hunt where someone spray painted swastikas in the restrooms, on park tables, trash cans and trees the night before. The amount of the cleanup was estimated to be $200.00, according to police reports. Another report was filed from a City of Brownwood employee on Monday around 7:45 AM, who reported that someone had again spray painted the inside of the restrooms located at Coggin Park. The responding officer went into both the boys’ and girls’ restrooms and found that the sink and walls of both with yellow paint. In the boys’ restroom, the letters “KKK” along with other designs were painted. In the girls’ restroom, “KKK” and “North Side” had been painted in yellow. Multiple other pictures were painted as well. The damage was estimated at $2000.00 and no suspects were identified at the time of the report.
Shortly after 10:00AM Monday, officers were dispatched to the 500 block of E. Commerce where someone had spray painted the side of the Brown County Water Improvement District’s brick office building, 501 E. Baker, and had painted the side wall of the adjacent business at 521 E. Baker. Damage to each of these buildings was estimated at $50-500.
An additional report of graffiti came in around 1:30 PM in the 600 block of N. Center, the U.S. Post Office, where someone spray painted graffiti on the east wall of the business which was similar to graffiti on other local businesses according to law enforcement. The damage at this location was thought to have occurred between Wednesday, March 26th and Friday, March 28th.
Brownwood Assistant Police Chief James Fuller said that the incidents are being investigated and are possibly related. Anyone with information about these incidents are encouraged to contact the Brownwood Police Department at 325-646-2525.

*4:40 PM – Brownwood Police met with a complainant who reported a case of fraud.
*Brown County Sheriff’s Office received a report of animal cruelty at a property located in Blanket.
Sunday, March 31
*A Brown County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the Owens area, regarding the report of a reckless driver southbound on Hwy 183. According to the report, before the deputy could intercept the driver, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and found that the driver, identified as 55-year-old Denise Steward of Sidney, was intoxicated on prescription pills. Steward was arrested for driving while intoxicated 3rd and taken to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center for a blood specimen, the report states.
*10:54 AM – After having previously arrested Denise Steward and finding that none of the passengers in the vehicle had valid drivers’ licenses, the Brown County Sheriff’s deputy allowed the pickup to be driven by one occupant, 32-year-old John White, to a nearby residence in lieu of towing the vehicle. According to the report, the deputy warned all of the occupants not to be driving, that he would arrest them if they were found to be driving without a valid license. Dispatch advised the deputy that a caller had called in and advised that all three of the occupants had left in the pickup and that they were in possession of prescription medication, according to the report. An Early Police officer stopped the vehicle on CR 616 and had observed White operating the vehicle. The report states that when the deputy arrived at the location, the EPD officer had already searched the vehicle and found 5 carisprodol 2.4 grams, 6 hydrocodone tablets 2.6 grams, 1 methadone tablet .2 grams and 6 alprazolam tablets 0.9 grams. These pills were found in a bag which also had clothes belonging to 26-year-old Jessica Parsons. The report states that White was arrested for driving while license invalid and Parsons was charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than 1 gram and two counts of possession of a controlled substance penalty group less than 28 grams.
Monday, April 1
*10:43 AM – Brownwood Police were called to the 2600 block of Durham Avenue regarding a burglary. According to the report, the complainant/owner of the residence used the home as a rent house and stated that a tenant had a six month lease that was now expired. The complainant stated that when the tenant refused to sign an extension on the lease, an eviction notice was given to the tenant who agreed to move out, the report states. According to the report, the complainant stated that once the tenant moved out, some bi-fold doors and a custom made “For Rent” sign was missing. The doors were installed as part of the tenant’s deposit, according to the complainant. The missing items are valued at approximately $250.00, the report states. An attempt to contact the tenant was unsuccessful.
*4:37 PM – Brownwood Police received a report of indecency with a child. According to law enforcement officials, an outcry was received from a 16-year-old girl stating that a relative in Houston had sexually assaulted her while she was in Houston. Child Protective Services were notified and an investigation is underway.
*8:37 PM – Brownwood Police were called to the 1700 block of Waco Street regarding disorderly conduct. According to the report, the complainant stated that he and his brother had been in a fight over a girl. During the fight, the complainant’s brother grabbed an ashtray and struck him in the head causing a small cut in his hairline, the report states. The complainant stated that he thought the fight was over; however his brother allegedly broke out the window of his truck and threatened to “kill the complainant with a knife,” the report states. As a result of the call, 28-year-old Thomas Jacob Bailey was arrested for aggravated assault family violence with a weapon.
*Early Police arrested Davey Lee Cox of Early on an indictment for possession of a controlled substance.
*Earl y Police arrested Carlos Lynn Talamantez of Brownwood on an indictment for credit card or debit card abuse.
Tuesday, April 2
*1:11 PM – Brownwood Police made a traffic stop on a vehicle for driving and parking on the wrong side of the road in the 2300 block of Avenue I. According to the report, the driver identified as 45-year-old Sandra Pope Franklin was found to be operating the vehicle while intoxicated. Franklin was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
*Brown County Sheriff’s Office spoke with a complainant who advised she had been the victim of theft through a “Mystery Shopper” scam. According to the report, the victim stated she had lost $3500 when she participated in what she believed was a mystery shopper’s program. It now appears the program was a scam, the report states.
