Funeral services for Gene Landrum, age 83, of Lake Brownwood, will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 4, 2013 in the Bangs First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at 2:30 PM, in the Potosi Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
Mr. Landrum died Monday, April 1, 2013 in an Abilene hospital.
William Eugene Landrum was born to Herman and Annie Lee Harvey Landrum on February 1, 1930 in Abilene. He attended Abilene schools and graduated from Abilene High School in 1947. He attended Texas A&M on a full scholarship where he was Captain on the basketball team his freshman year. Gene served his country in the US Army reserves. He also served the Abilene community in the Abilene Lions Club, where he was a past president. He worked in office supply sales for many years.
Gene married Shirley Powell on December 15, 1998 in Bangs. They enjoyed attending dances at Traveler’s and other dancing venues in the area. He was a member of Bangs First United Methodist Church.
Gene is survived by his wife Shirley of Lake Brownwood, two daughters, Terri Streater and husband Mickey of Hamilton, Jamie Nance of The Colony; a son, Jerry Landrum and wife Laura of Washington, DC; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, Don Landrum of Buffalo, Texas, and Harold Landrum of Abilene, and a sister, Katherine Williams of Abilene.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
