Residents across Brown County participated in the 2012 National Night Out with block parties Tuesday evening. Officials said that about 60 block parties took place all over the county including Brownwood, Early, Bangs, May, Zephyr, Brookesmith, and several rural locations. Neighborhoods held these cookouts, pot-lucks, games, and other activities to help heighten crime and drug prevention awareness. National Night Out helped neighbors get to know each other better and helped strengthen relationships between residents and local law enforcement.
Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes said he appreciated everyone who participated in the evening’s events.
“I appreciate the police, fire departments, and emergency responders for participating in National Night Out,” Haynes said. “It means a lot to the community.”
Sponsors for the 2012 National Night Out in Brown County include Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers, WT Harris Company, Guardian EMS, ATMOS Energy, Wal-Mart, Oncor Electric Delivery, Southside Church, and TexasBank.
