ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne University volleyball team picked up a five game win over Mississippi College before falling in four games to Centenary College on day two of the American Soutwest Conference crossover tournament.
Just like on Friday against East Texas Baptist, the Lady Jackets found themselves down two games (21-25,20-25) and then rallied (26-24,25-20,15-8) to take the match 3-2.
Tamika Heline threw down 26 kills against Mississipp College follow by Sarah Bishop with 12. Heline gave HPU setter Jessica Guerra almost half of her 55 assists in the match. Kristin Hammond added 27 digs.
Heline and Bishop had 16 and 10 kills respectively versus the Lady Jackets second opponent of the day Centenary College. Guerra had 40 assists and Hammond had 25 digs.
The two teams split the first two games before Centenary secured the match with 25-18 games.
Howard Payne is now 7-9 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The Lady Jackets will be at home next on Tuesday in a 7:00 pm match with Concordia University Texas.
