Pianist Michael Finlay will perform a concert at Howard Payne University’s Grace Chapel August 25 at 7:30 p.m. Finlay, a Texas native, has performed as both a soloist and chamber musician in many cities in the United States and Canada.
Finlay grew up in Bryan-College Station and studied with teachers there and in Austin. At age 15, he won a scholarship to attend the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, where he completed his last three years of high school and received strong training in piano. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music and a master’s from the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore.
“We are so honored to have master pianist Michael Finlay perform at HPU,” said Dr. Robert Tucker, dean of music, fine arts and extended education. “His highly respected degrees from outstanding institutions are in concert with his remarkable skill, his personal expression and his virtuosic technique. We are especially fortunate to have him in our area visiting his family in Brady. The evening promises to be one of uplifting and exciting cultural music.”
Finlay’s program will include works by Beethoven, Liszt, Poulenc and Chopin. The concert is free and open to the public.
