Back-to-school time is here and many parents will be hitting stores to start shopping, but some less fortunate families are going to need help getting school supplies, according to Salvation Army Service Center Director Donna Harris.
“We have almost 500 kids signed up needing school supplies,” Harris said.
According to Harris, with a tighter budget this year, the Salvation Army is running short on the requested supplies and needs help. Currently, they only have about half of what they need and time is running out as volunteers will be working to pack these supplies for distribution in the coming week.
Harris said that they are running very short on wide-rule notebook paper, black pens, single subject spiral notebooks, and folders.
“We are looking for individuals or businesses who can help fill this need,” said Harris. “Money can also be donated so we can buy what we need.”
Harris said that any checks written and donated to the Salvation Army for school supplies need to say “for school supplies” in the note so it will not go to their general fund. Harris said that 100% of these noted checks will go directly to purchase school supplies for the needy.
“We need large quantities of several of these items so we are praying for the help,” Harris said. “God wants me to give everyone the opportunity to help needy children.”
Anyone looking to make a donation of supplies or cash to the Salvation Army’s school supply project can stop by their location at 405 Lakeway Drive in Brownwood; mail check to PO Box 911, Brownwood, TX 76804; or contact Donna Harris directly at 325-203-07696.
