NJHS2011

The “largest group of inductees” according to Brownwood Middle School Principal Bryan Allen was inducted into the BMS chapter of the National Junior Honor Society on April 12, 2011.

The ceremony took place in the Lehrer Gymnasium at Brownwood Middle School as proud parents and friends observed.

Current NJHS members and officers led the ceremony and explained the criteria for selection as they lighted the traditional white candles.  Ryan Lewis (Secretary) spoke of Scholarship.  Delaney Bennett explained the role of Service.  Kalin Young (President of BMS NJHS) gave comments about Leadership; Citizenship was explained by Taran Cardenas (Vice President), and Cassidy Schmidt (Treasurer) explained the role of Character.

To be a member of the BMS Chapter of NJHS, students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least (91%).   A faculty council reviews eligible candidates and their discipline records to determine membership, which requires a majority vote of the council.

“NJHS recognizes students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character,” stated Chapter Advisor Kristi Sharpe.  “Membership is an honor and a commitment.”

Guest speaker Michael Cloy encouraged this new class of inductees to remember the importance of character because it is what you are, your moral values, your personality and everything people consider make up who you are.
