A Brown County Jail Inmate, Christopher Diaz was released Wednesday morning after posting bond. According to local officials and bondsmen, Diaz’s grandparents put real estate they owned up as the bond collateral. He was released on bonds totaling $36,500.
According to Senior Trooper Sparky Dean of the Texas Department of Public Safety, 20-year-old Diaz from Amarillo was stopped on June 27th on U.S. Highway 67 west of Brownwood because of the expired registration on the vehicle he was driving. Dean said that Diaz was found with a quantity of hashish and marijuana in his vehicle. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver and Possession of Marijuana.
He was indicted during the July session of the grand jury for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver.
Diaz and his supporters maintain that he uses the marijuana for medicinal and religious reasons.
The trial Diaz is scheduled for October 25, 2010.
