Funeral services for Avis Wilma Click Sheffield, age 87, of Brownwood, will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, August 2, 2010 at Southside Church with Alan Wallace and Danny Ballejo officiating. Burial will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.
She died Friday, July 30, 2010 in Brownwood.
Avis was born to Roy & Lela Click on March 1, 1923 in Voca, Texas. She married Clyde Marcus “Sug” Sheffield on December 23, 1937. She lived most of her life in Brownwood. She worked as a waitress and at Brownwood Manufacturing, but was first and foremost a wife and mother. She was a true Proverbs 31 woman, always putting others before herself. She was everyone’s “Nanny” and was dearly loved. She will be missed by all who knew her. Avis was an active member of Southside Church and dearly loved the Joy Sunday School Class.
Avis is survived by three daughters, Sharron Holland and husband Ray of Brownwood, Vickie Ford and husband Russ of Bryan, and Gayle Ogden and husband Will of Brownwood, grandchildren, Alicia Lacy and husband Russell of Houston, Marcus Preston of Cypress, Michael Holland and wife Christy of San Antonio, Thomas Holland of Brownwood, Brianna Ketcham of Houston, Heather and Hunter Slayton of Lufkin, Courtney Ford of Bryan, Skyler, Lanessa, and Kylie Ogden of Brownwood; nine great-grandchildren, two sisters, Stella Harris and Earlene Williams, a brother, J.D. Click, a sister-in-law, Marjorie Sheffield, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1997, her daughter and son-in-law, Wilma and Joe Preston, three sisters, Faye Moseley, Ann Haile, and Bess McGinnis, and two brothers, Raymond and Roy Click.
The family would like to give special thanks to Cross Country Healthcare and to Dr. Stephen Oines and staff for the loving care given to their mother. The family requests that memorials be made to Southside Church, Cross Country Healthcare, or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
