Julia “Joyce” Harris went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 16, 2010 in San Angelo, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday May 20, 2010 at the Davis Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Brownwood with Pastor L.E. Blackstock officiating, interment to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Davis Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The was born December 27, 1925 in Orrick, Missouri to Cecil and Laura (Dudgeon) McMullen.
Joyce married Kenneth Delbert Harris Sr. on January 15, 1946 in Kansas City, Kansas. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage until his death oin February 11, 2006. They had three sons during this time and lived in Kansas City, Missouri, Nashville, Tennessee and Clovis, New Mexico before moving to Brownwood in 1980. Joyce worked for Brownwood Regional Medical Center as a patient counselor until her retirement in 1998. Joyce was a member of the Brown County Possettes for many years and had a special place in her heart for all kinds of animals. She enjoyed oil painting and collecting angels.
Joyce was a generous person, serving people in many ways and giving from her heart. By following the principles derived from her faith in God, she loved her husband and raised three wonderful sons, and helped innumerous people along the way. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth D. Harris; a son, Kevin Harris; a granddaughter, Kelly Harris; sister, JoAnn McMullen; and brothers, Cecil and James McMullen.
She is survived by two sons, Ken Harris Jr. and wife Lisa of San Angelo, and Kent Harris and Bobbi of Nashville; a brother Maurice McMullen and wife Dorothy of Kansas City, Kansas. Five grandchildren, Cheyenne Harris, Nicole Harris, Clayton Harris, Justin Smith and Kevin Smith. Joyce is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the nursing staff at Park Plaza and Vista Care Hospice of San Angelo for the wonderful care that was given to their mother during her stay.
