IMG_6102The Corinne T. Smith Animal Center hosted an open house on Thursday evening to show off its modern facility to the public.

The Humane Society was created in Brown County in 1974. The main focus of the Humane Society is to take in stray and unwanted animals and to find them new forever homes if they are adoptable.

The Humane Society built a shelter in 1975 and changed the name of the Shelter in 2006 to honor Corinne T. Smith, who was one of the original organizers of the Humane Society in Brown County.  She was the director for most of the last 30 years, and she dedicated her life to the animals and the shelter.

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce was on hand and held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the center.  Members of the animal center’s board of directors were present along with city officials, workers, and volunteers.

Mayor Bert Massey said, “I am an animal lover and I am delighted that we have this such a great facility in the city of Brownwood.”

Those interested in adopting a dog or cat are encouraged to visit the Corinne T. Smith Animal Center located at 3016 Milam Drive in Brownwood.
