Claudia Calippe-Matacotta, 81, of Brownwood passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Sunday, May 5, 2013.
She was born July 22, 1931, in France to Gustave and Marie-Louise Daval Calippe.
Claudia moved to Canada in 1959 and to the United States in 1965. She had been a resident of Brownwood/Early since 1970.
She is survived by one son, Joshua Matacotta of California, four step-children, Linda Calvillo and Michelle Matacotta of Florida, Ernest Matacotta of Georgia, and Sandra Ward of Early. Also, two brothers and one sister, Benjamin Calippe of France, Gerard Calippe of San Marcos, and Marie-Louise Calippe of France, and a niece, Brigitte Combs, of Virginia. There are several step-grand-children, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in the USA and in France. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, sewing doll clothes, playing games like Skip-Bo and backgammon (especially if she won), and most of all her animals. Among those left behind are her little dogs, Pancho and Pepito.
Claudia was unique – from her fashion sense and ornery manner to the way she would correct people’s misspellings. But Claudia, or “Frenchy” as she was known to many, had a big heart and gave a lot of love. She wrote many handwritten letters and never forgot a birthday.
Helen Ray Scott, age 87, of Brownwood passed away Thursday May 9, 2013 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services will be held Monday May 13th at 2:00pm at Eastlawn Memorial Park with Billy Slaymaker officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00pm prior to service at Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Helen was born to Repress and Alma Harris on December 28, 1925 in Santa Anna, Texas. She married Hugh Scott and had a son. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and worked for Retail Merchants for 40 years.
She is survived by her son James Ray Scott of Brownwood; and many great loving friends.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband Hugh Scott; parents; two brothers; and a sister.
Troy L. Hanley, loving husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with the Lord Thursday May 9, 2013 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.
Services for will be held at 10:00am Monday May 13th at Bangs Church of Christ with Milton Langston and Aaron LeMond officiating, interment will follow at Bangs Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday May 12th from 3-5pm at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Troy was born on November 11, 1927 to Charles and Maggie Hanley in Voss, Texas. On December 15, 1947 Troy married Joyce Darlene Martin, they were married 65 blessed years with three kids. He was a member of the Bangs Church of Christ for many years and worked as a farmer and carpenter.
He is survived by his wife Darlene Hanley of Bangs; sons Michael Hanley and wife Maryln of Bangs, Stephen Hanley and wife Marianne of Kerrville; daughter Diana Early and husband David of Bangs; brother James O. Hanley of Liberty Hill; sister-in-law Billie R. Hanley of Aledo; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Troy is preceded in death by his parents; brother Charles Boyd Hanley; and sister Winnie O. Medcalf.
James Walton Lewis, loving husband, father and PawPaw, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 9, 2013.
Funeral services are under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home in Early, Texas, and his service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Salt Creek Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Salt Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral Home.
Mr. Lewis passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, at his home.
James was born Nov. 27, 1933, in Brown County, to O.E. and Sally Lewis who preceded him in death. He was married to the only love of his life, Linda Joy Ehrke (Lewis) on Aug. 7, 1952, and they recently celebrated 60 years of blessed marriage.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Mike Lewis and wife Judy Ruth of Burnet; his daughter, Judy Layton and her husband Kent of Quinlan; his son, Matt Lewis and wife Charlotte of San Angelo; and daughter, Kerry Lilley of Early; grandchildren, Chuck Murphy, Brice Waterman, Cody Lilley, Jameson Lewis, Carson Lewis, Luke Lewis, Lauren Layton, Samantha Lewis; and great-granddaughter, Addison Murphy. James is survived by his brother, C.E. Lewis and wife Faye of Fort Worth; brother-in-law, Jack Ehrke and wife Ganelle of Salt Creek; and numerous nieces and nephews. James worked for 39 years with Texas Power and Light, (TU Electric/Oncor) in numerous positions including District Engineer and Customer Service Manager. He served on the Economic Development Corporation of Early, later serving on city council then as Mayor of Early throughout the 90’s. He was a long-time member of the Brownwood Kiwanis Club, serving as President, and was deacon of Salt Creek Baptist Church for over 40 years.
Graveside services for Margaret Powell will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, in the Mukewater Cemetery Bangs. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Heartland Funeral Home in Early.
Funeral services for J.D. Jackson, Jr., age 78, of Brownwood, Texas will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery. He passed away Monday, May 6, 2013 at his residence.
J.D. was born on December 12, 1934 in Rosenberg, Texas to J.D. and Annie Arnold Jackson. He had lived in Brownwood since 1999 moving here from Round Rock. J.D. loved the outdoors, yard work, always had a smile and loved to laugh.
His family included his parents, sister Annie McCullough and his American Habilitation Services Family.
Ronald Wade “Babe” Shank age 68 of Brownwood passed away Saturday May 4, 2013 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday May 7, 2013 at Greenleaf Cemetery with Bro. Ruben Packer officiating. The Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday evening at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Babe was born January 30, 1945 to William and Dorothy Shank in Brownwood, Texas. A lifetime resident of Brown County he worked for Dr Pepper as a sales representative and retired after 20 years of service. After retirement Babe loved barbequing, buying old trucks and fixing them up and working on engines of all kinds.
Margie Ruth Tobey age 87, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 4, 2013.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 7th, from 9 AM to 10 AM at Davis-Morris Funeral Home in Brownwood. Graveside service will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery Tuesday, May 7th, at 11 AM.
Margie was born April 12, 1926, in Portales, New Mexico to Rev. E.C. Tobey and Nettie Bell Tobey. She is survived by her son, William Conway Jones and his wife Tina; granddaughter, Angenette Tobey Ostrom and husband Dallas; brothers, Col. Chester Tobey and wife Vivian, Earnest D. Tobey and numerous nieces and nephews.
Anne Marie Tyrie Garcia age 67 of Brownwood passed away Friday May 3, 2013 at her residence.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday May 7, 2013 in the Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel. Private interment will be held at a later date.
Anne was born July 16, 1945 to Arthur and Pearl Pouget in Michigan. Anne moved to Brownwood in 1981 and was a beloved caregiver to many families over the years before going to work for Wal-mart. Anne attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church for many years.
She is survived by her children David Horn and wife LeAnne of Humble, Alicia Fowler of Houston, Don Horn and wife Dawn of Brownwood, Michelle Bessent of Arlington, and Bobbie Anne Brown of Graham; 20 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.
