Carolyn Leonard, beloved mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend went to rest in the arms of her Savior on Monday, April 22, in Abilene, Texas. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday April 25, 2013, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, 800 Center Ave., Brownwood. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Davis-Morris. Her final resting place will be at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early.
Carolyn Jo Baker was born the oldest of seven children to R.L. and Jo Ann Baker in Coleman, Texas. She grew up in Valera and graduated from Talpa Centennial High School in 1963. She married James Leonard on December 23, 1976. Carolyn graduated from nursing school as an LVN in 1978 and her first nursing job was at BRMC in the nursery. She then worked for Dr. Seale Cutbirth for many years, and then later for Oak Ridge Manor as documentation nurse.
James and Carolyn have been long time members of Calvary Baptist Church where Carolyn sang in the choir. She was known for her love of Elvis Presley and has an extensive collection of Elvis memorabilia.
Funeral services for Harold A. Tunnell, age 86, will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors Pioneer Chapel with Mr. Gene Shelburne of Anna Street Church of Christ officiating. Mr. Tunnell passed away on April 21, 2013 in Amarillo, Texas.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2013 at Antioch Cemetery near Brownwood, Texas under the direction of Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors.
Harold was born February 9, 1927 in Pioneer, Texas to William and Velma Tunnell. He was raised in and around Borger and graduated from Borger High School. Harold received his Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University. He designed and built his residence at 7005 Dreyfuss. Harold was a man that defined expertise in his profession. He will be greatly missed.
Bobby Ray Alford, 68, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on April 22, 2013 at his home in Brownwood, Texas. He was born on August 30, 1944 in Gorman, Texas to Grady and Ernestine (McMillan) Alford.
Bobby grew up in May, Texas and graduated from May High School. After high school he worked for 10 years at General Dynamics in Fort Worth as a structural mechanic. After moving back to Brownwood, he worked at Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M). He retired in 2007 after 39 years of service.
Bobby married Loma Keesee in 1965 in Brownwood, Texas. They were married for 47 years. Bobby was a member of Early First Baptist Church. He enjoyed outdoor activities including working at his family’s farm. He always loved spending time playing with his grandkids or attending their numerous activities or sporting events. Bobby enjoyed the big family gatherings with all of his kids and grandkids. He often talked about taking day trips with the “Shiftless Ones”, a group of friends who had also retired from 3M. Bobby’s gentle spirit, smile, loving nature and compassion for others will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Lucille McIntire Martin, age 89, who lived in Coleman County most of her life died April 21, 2013 in College Park Rehab Center in Weatherford, Texas. She was born December 18, 1923 at Shield, Texas the daughter of the late John and Myrtle (Sanders) McIntire.
She graduated from Rockwood High School in 1941 and married Ray E. Martin on June 7, 1941 at Gouldbusk, Texas. She later attended LVN school at the Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital in Coleman and worked there for several years. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and was a Southern Baptist Pastor's wife and an awesome Bible teacher. She was loved by many.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, a grandson, Barney Martin, her sister, Geneva (Tiny) Newman, her niece, Monique Newman, and a brother, Johnny Benton.
She is survived by her brother, John McIntire and his wife Linda of Brownwood, her sister, Juanita Cagle of Fort Clark Springs, Texas, and nine children including Brenda Martin Forbess of Brownwood, Jimmy Ray Martin and wife Pat of Weatherford, Terry Martin Jordan and husband Ronny of Cross Cut, Rodney Payne Martin and wife Karen of Midland, Pamela Martin McDonald and husband Terry of Brownwood, Randy Martin and wife Patsy of Comanche, Tammy Martin Driskill and husband David of San Antonio, Shelly Martin Velasco and husband Jeff of San Antonio, and Celia "Tip" Martin Matthews and husband Lester of Abilene.
Paula Mendoza, age 80, of Brownwood passed from this life on Sunday, April 21 2013. There will be a Rosary at 6:00 P.M. Tuesday,(today) April 23, 2013, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, 800 Center Ave., Brownwood. Burial will be in Villa Union, Mexico.
Paula was born on March 28, 1933, in Santa Monica, Mexico to Francisco and Francisca Romero Munoz. She was married to Abraham Mendoza in 1949, and together they raised 7 children. She was a member of St. Mary’s Queen of Peace Catholic Church who worked for many years at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
Paula is survived by her children, Maria Contreras of Brownwood, Victor Mendoza of Brownwood, Raphael Mendoza and wife Hortencia of Brownwood, Raquel Ramirez and husband Daniel of Brownwood, Adolfo Mendoza of Dublin, Silvia Martinez of Brownwood and Sandra Leal and husband Eulalio of Brownwood; 29 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
Rickey D. Funderburg, 61, of Brownwood passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Mr. Funderburg was cremated under the direction of Brownwood Funeral Home and Cremations. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Rickey was born on Dec. 31, 1951, to Clinton and Wilma (Cooley) Funderburg. He worked in the oil field.
Rickey is survived by son, Rickey Funderburg, Jr. and his mother, Debbie Phillips, both of White Settlement; wife, Barbara Funderburg and sons, Joshua Goins and Mickey Funderburg, all of Brownwood; four grandchildren, Christian Goins of Brownwood, Stephanie and Maureen Goins of Arlington, and Olivia Funderburg of Brownwood; fiancé, Carmen Gutierrez; brother, Michael Cooley and friend Mary Jane Barnum of Brownwood; sister, Pamela Hillhouse and husband Wesley of Brownwood; a special niece that was loved dearly, Brittany Reyes; and several other nieces and nephews.
Cheryl Kay Ferguson, age 65 of Brownwood passed away at her home on Friday, April 19, 2013. Graveside services will be held at 4 PM Monday, April 22, 2013 at Greenleaf Cemetery with Chaplain Steve Baker officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home & Cremations. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
Cheryl was born May 3, 1947 in New Boston, Texas to Jimmie and Irene (Fuston) Williams. She attended school at Brownwood High School and lived in Brownwood for most of her life. Cheryl was a hair stylist.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her daughter, Melissa “Missy” Ferguson and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
My Beloved Husband and Father David Moreno at the age of 42 went to rest with the Lord on April 18, 2013 at Brownwood Regional after a brief illness and sent us a little angel to take his place on earth. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Heartland Funeral Home with interment to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park.
David was born to Reyes and Alberta Moreno on Aug, 15, 1970 in Corpus Christi, Texas. On, Aug. 22, 1985 he married Sylvia Lopez Moreno in Brownfield, TX. They lived in Brownwood and Early for the past 25 years where he had worked for Brownwood Manufacturing, Kohler and Smith Roofing until the time of his illness.
Funeral Services for Allene C. Davis, 82, of Brownwood, Texas will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Brownwood with Wayne Davis, Rodney Watson and John Tunnell officiating. Interment will follow at the Bangs Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 PM Saturday at the Heartland Funeral Home. She passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 in Brownwood.
Mrs. Davis was born February 5, 1931 in Brown County to Bonnie and Harvey Chastain. She grew up in the community of Grosvenor and graduated from Bangs High School in 1948 as Valedictorian of her class.
On August 11, 1951, Allene married her high school sweetheart, Morris W. Davis, at Calvary Baptist Church. After several moves, they made their home in Memphis, Texas for 37 years. Mrs. Davis was a Christian Lady who loved her Lord. While in Memphis, she was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, G. A. leader, and on various committees. Since returning to Brownwood in 2002, Mrs. Davis faithfully served at Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. Davis invested her life in her family, both as a homemaker and as bookkeeper for her husband’s company Davis Irrigation, for many years. She is most remembered for her gift of hospitality. She loved hosting Christmas parties, having guests in her home for meals and ministering to others with gifts of food. She especially loved having all of her family home and cooking for her children and grandchildren.
